Amazon’s Alexa-based devices are really plunging into new territory these days. That’s probably because there are so many new Alexa/smart home products out there than there was when the first Echo dot appeared.

But one mainstay remains a perennial best seller for the company, and that is the Amazon Echo Dot.

The 2018 version of the popular device is out and it is better than ever.

If you’ve been waiting for a reason to buy the Amazon Echo Dot, then you’ve run out of excuses – 2018’s model is just that good.

One of the biggest reasons the Echo Dot is such a hit is that it comes at just the right price: $50.

And there’s absolutely no change on that front.

Some of the information you can request from you Echo Dot includes the news, weather, and even traffic information. Naturally, the Echo Dot can playback your favorite music and podcasts. Currently. The Echo Dot 3.0 supports Amazon Prime Music, Spotify, Pandora, TuneIn, iHeartRadio and others.

Probably one of the biggest features of the Amazon Echo Dot is its ability to control smart devices. Amazon vends a ton of different things to transform your home into a smart home, and the seamless integration many of these devices have with Amazon’s Alexa-powered products is a real plus. The Echo Dot for 2018 expands this offering and is more competitive than ever before because of Amazon’s increased offerings.

Outside of that, it offers shopping and wishlist management as well as helping you with daily tasks. You can place calls with the help of the app that comes along with the service and you can set timers for things as well as alarms.

Aesthetically, the new dots are a little bit different than the models in the past and have a wrap-around speaker fabric mesh. They’re still studies in simplicity and minimalism but most people aren’t buying these for the design. Functionality and integration with existing Amazon services, coupled with their robust offerings elsewhere, make the Amazon Echo Dot 3.0 the product to beat when it comes to budget Alexa devices.
