If you are looking for a cheap TV for the kid’s bedroom, your study or maybe even your own bedroom. One TV that is well worth considering is the just over 100 bucks, TCL 32S325 32 Inch 720p Roku Smart LED TV. Not everyone is looking for a massive 4K TV right now tere is still a place for a budget priced TV that is not meant as the main TV of the house.
Who Is TCL?
No doubt when a few of you saw the title you: asked: “who the heck is TCL?”. Now granted they do not have the name recognition of Sony or Samsung. However, this Chinese company is getting more and more popular thanks to their budget priced range of electronics such as this TV here.
They have actually been around for nearly four decades so do not worry about them being a flash in the pan company that here is here to just peddle you a cheap TV!
The dimensions of the TV are as follows,
Width: 31.5 inches,
Height: 19 inches (this is with the stand, without the stand it is 17.1)
Depth: 6.8 inches (this includes the stand and how far it is in front and behind TV)
You may be looking at the size of that screen and saying “this is called a 32-inch TV!!” well truth be told most TV’s these days when they say 32, 40 or 50 inches mean the actual overall size of the TV, not the actual screen. This is a very decent sized TV for a spare room, kitchen or for the kids to have in their bedrooms.
Without the stand on it, the TV has a depth of only around 3 inches so it will look great if you decide to mount it on a wall as it has a rather slim profile.
Pros & Cons
These are the main pros and cons of the TCL 32S325 32 Inch 720p Roku Smart LED TV.
The image is pretty sharp
It has a very nice viewing angle
The Roku functionality is amazing
The asking price makes it a phenomenal deal
It has a rather solid feel to it
The picture is not the best in the world
The remote may take a while to get used to
What Kind Of Connections Does It Have?
As far as the connections go when it comes to a cheap TV the TCL 32S325 32 Inch 720p Roku Smart LED TV has exactly what you would expect in terms of connections.
On the side of the TV, you have two HDMI connections. Then there is also a third HDMI Arc connection as well. Getting three HDMI inputs on a budget price TV like this really is quite remarkable. I actually expected to only have 2! To put this in perspective. Last year, I purchased a 55-inch 4K Samsung TV and that only has three HDMI inputs as well.
It does also have a composite input as well which is handy if you have older devices that you would like to use. There is no component input which sadly seems to be the case with most of the TV’s that are released in 2019!
There is also a standard cable/antenna input if you need that.
You have a standard audio out/headphone jack and also an optical out. So, you can improve the sound if you like. Which is actually something you might want to consider doing.
Right at the bottom of this section of the TV is a USB port. This can come in handy if you want to look at photos, watch movies and so on off a USB memory stick.
In all, I feel that this TV is pretty darn stacked when it comes to its connections.
This TV states that it is 720p, but it can actually do 1080 which is pretty awesome. Of course, the picture quality is not going to be the greatest, but I would bet most people would be surprised at how good the image this TV provides is. You will have to play around with the settings to get the best picture it can produce. However, most people will leave it as is and be more than happy with this HDTV.
The refresh rate is 60hz which for most people really will not matter. I noticed very little motion blur (if any) with this. Also, one other thing I have to mention is the viewing angle. I tested this out in the bedroom on two different surfaces. One level with the bed and one a few feet above and found the viewing angles to be far better than I thought they would.
At this price range and this size, I am very impressed with the quality of the screen. I think even kids who want this to play video games on would be happy as my son played Team Sonic Racing for around an hour on this and didn’t complain once! The backlight is fun and really does illuminate the whole screen very well, right up to the edges.
The Smart Features
For me, one of the things that makes this a better cheap TV than the million other models out there is not just that this is a Smart TV. It is the fact that this has Roku functionality built in. We used this TV in our bedroom and it was great. It connected to our Wi-fi which is located downstairs and the signal was solid right from the start.
Roku is awesome and using things like Netflix, Amazon Prime, WWE Network, YouTube and whatever other apps you like is very easy. You just download the ones you want, sing in with your account and you are ready to watch.
The TV has a home screen that as well as having all your apps listed it has your cable box and whatever else you have connected to the TV listed be it a Blu-Ray player or a games console for example.
One thing that I really liked was being able to connect my phone to the TV. Roku offers this really cool app and with that, you can use your phone to control the TV. Now to be fair this is not an “essential” feature and I would bet many people will not bother. I though think it is a neat addition and one I know I would certainly use a great deal.
The Remote Control
I have used some just god-awful remote controls over the year. Most of the time it has nothing to do with if you are using a budget priced TV or not! That Samsung TV I mentioned earlier has a horrible remote control, but the TV was very expensive.
The remote control that the TCL 32S325 32 Inch 720p Roku Smart LED TV uses is great. It is a nice and compact size and I found it very easy to use. It has color-coded buttons which I think some less technically minded people may take a while to get used to, but for the most part, this remote is pretty solid.
I think the best comparison for this remote is that it to me feels like a slightly larger Amazon Fire TV stick remote. The buttons have that same kind of spongy feel to them that the Fire Stick remote has.
Of course, if you do not like the remote you can always use your phone for most of what you want the TV to do. If you have Alexa or Google Assistant you can use that with this TV, but I have to be honest and say that was not something I was able to test out.
It may sound weird to have a section dedicated to a stand on a cheap TV, but it is something you have to consider. You may be asking yourself right now “who cares about the stand?” Well, actually you should as a stand can actually be a bigger deal than you would think.
The stand that the TCL 32S325 32 Inch 720p Roku Smart LED TV uses is two separate legs. Now, these look cool and all, but they are on the far side of each end of the TV. This means that if you have a TV stand that is not a standard shape these legs may not actually fit on it. I always prefer a direct stand that is a solid base under the TV as you know that will fit on every stand.
So, it may seem a very unusual thing to talk about, but make sure the TV stand you have is able to support the legs that this TV has.
How Much Does It Cost?
Currently, on Amazon, you can get this TV for $132. This is an amazing price for a TV like this. I remember 10 years ago a 32-Inch HDTV would have cost you five times as much as that. The value for money that you are getting with this TV really is quite incredible.
As far as a 32-inch TV for the bedroom or the spare room goes, you will struggle to find one that beats this in terms of value for money.
The TCL 32S325 32 Inch 720p Roku Smart LED TV is not the greatest TV in the world, but at $132 it is one of the best bang for your buck TVs you can get. It is well made, has great Roku functionality and it does all you want a cheap TV to do.
If you want a reliable budget priced TV that has a good picture, supports all your favorite apps and is low priced. You really have to consider picking this one up!
