After carving a name and market for themselves in the budget and mid-range smartphone segment, Honor is looking to make it big in the TV market. The company has recently announced its plans to launch a smart TV. This upcoming Honor smart TV will be unveiled on 10th August 2019, at the Huawei Developer Conference in China. Honor has maintained to keep the Honor Smart TV features under tight wraps. The TV will be launched in the Indian market very soon.
The announcement of this upcoming Honor smart TV has created quite a buzz in the market already. Though no official date on the availability of this smart TV has been announced, there have been more than 100,000 pre-orders already, which have been made based only on the teasers. The key expected specifications of the Honor Smart TV are provided below:
Honor has named its upcoming smart TV as “Smart Screen”. This TV is powered by a Hongjun 818 chip which is developed by Huawei in partnership with Baidu. The Hongjun 818 chip is unique as it has been specially designed and developed for smart TVs. It will offer high-quality audio and video output. This chipset runs on an octa-core architecture and can support 8K video playback at 30fps or 4K playback at 120fps. The chip also supports 64MP image decoding, HDR, noise reduction, local dimming, etc. The chip also integrates Histen audio optimization technology to provide a high-quality and immersive surround sound experience.
There were initial rumors that this upcoming Honor smart TV will run on Android OS. However, it is now being believed that it will be running on Hongmeng OS which is Huawei’s in-house OS. Huawei was working on their Hongmeng OS for some time now as an alternative to Android OS. Honor plans to position its smart TV as more than just a TV. It is projecting it as a connected device which can seamlessly integrate with your smartphone. It is expected to provide a pop-up selfie camera which will be equipped with AI capabilities with this TV. The AI capabilities of this pop-up selfie camera are likely to be powered by HiSilicon NPU. This selfie camera is being provided for use in video calling and other AI-related things. It is expected that Honor will launch two different types of 55-inch displays for their upcoming smart TV.
