How to program DIRECTV remote to TV, A must-know program

A very first question is what do you have a universal standard remote control or the DIRECTV remote. Starting with Universal remote:

Program DIRECTV universal remote

Programming a DIRECTV universal remote is possible with a Blu-ray player, a DVR, or any other device using manual or on-screen pairing.

Program with On-Screen Pairing the universal remote by following these steps:

Press on your remote the Menu button.
Select settings> Remote control> Program emote.

Just follow the instructions on-screen and do the process.

Program manually a Universal Remote

Pairing manually the universal remote is possible by following these steps:

Turn your receiver and TV
Locate for the TV brand a five-digit code using the DIRECTV’s website.
Ensure to switch on the remote and it should be set to TV.
Hold the Mute and Select until the green light flashes on the remote twice.
From step two enter the five-digit code of the remote.

Test the connection keeping the remote facing the TV and press the Volume Up button. In case the volume goes up, take the next step. If nothing happens, again repeat steps 2, 3, and 4 using a different code. There will be several codes possible, based on the model number of the TV’s.

Set to the DIRECTV position the Mode switch. Pair your remote and get going.

Program a DIRECTV Genie Remote

If yours is a Genie remote, there may be automatic and manual pairing processes, besides the third option for DIRECTV Ready TVs. Beginning with automatic pairing.

Program with Automatic Pairing a Genie Remote

Point the Genie remote to your cable box, hold pressing the Mute and Enter buttons until the green light appears twice. The TV will reveal a message “Applying IR/RF Setup” as it gets completed.
Power the device on as you are pairing with your remote.
Press Menu on the remote.
Select Settings & Help > Remote Control > Program Remote.

Choose the device to pair, and follow the instructions on-screen.

Program manually a Genie Remote

In case the process of automatic pairing fails, manually pair the remote.

Follow the same steps as above until green light appears twice

Enter on the remote keypad 961 code and press the Channel button and press enter
Tv will show a message stating remote is set for RF, press ok.

Pair on the device by pressing on the remote

Select Settings & Help > Settings > Remote Control > Program Remote.

Pair the device and follow instructions on-screen. Control your devices and enjoy DIRECTV programming.
