The OnePlus 7 had the rumor mill running from the first day it was announced – and it hasn’t let up since.
Everything from being the first 5G smartphone to also being the first smartphone to take advantage of the Snapdragon 855 chipset, the OnePlus 7 “reportedly” will be able to do everything but pay for itself if rumors are to be believed.
We’ve gathered together the latest and most reliable news out there for you in this article. Trying to cut through the hype was pretty tough, especially when the evidence that the smartphone is going to be truly epic starts to mount.
So, if you’ve had questions about the OnePlus 7, we will hopefully answer them for you here. But, remember, all of this is still preliminary until a final product hits the streets.
In terms of a release date, the best we’ve got so far is that the OnePlus 7 will drop sometime in the middle of 2019. Pricing is what has a lot of people excited: Starting at $USD 549, the OnePlus 7 could prove to be a game changer if the rumored specs hold up.
Back to the release date, some people like to refer to history in order to speculate about the future. Past headset releases or announcements of new devices by OnePlus have fallen in either May or June which has many analysts pointing to those two months as a serious possibility.
Then again, the company has bandied about January 15 as a date on which something consequential will happen. Optimistic people point to that as being a potential release window but others think it might just be a confirmation of what the headset will be when it is released.
Another huge change coming with the OnePlus 7 that doesn’t have to do with tech specs is that the phone could be offered by mainline US cell phone carriers for the first time ever.
Perhaps the single biggest feature that most people are wondering about is whether or not the OnePlus 7 is going to be the first 5G phone or not. They haven’t specifically said that the OnePlus 7 will be the first 5G phone but it could be. What they have said is that they will release the first 5G phone in 2019 which could be the OnePlus 7 or an as yet unnamed model.
What we do think is totally within the realm of possibility is that the OnePlus 7 will come with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, the 855, and 10 GB of RAM.
Fans might be asking for a QHD screen or something similar but we doubt that OnePlus is going to slap a pricey display on the 7. This is because, in order to met that aggressive price point, some things like a full HD screen are more economically feasible than something better. That could be a deciding factor for some people, but we don’t think that many fans of the OnePlus models released prior will be too upset about it.
Outside of that, some other features people are hoping to see on the phone include water resistance, wireless charging, and a micro SD card slot.
