If a Laptop Fails to Turn On –Know the Steps to Start Here

Using a laptop is easy and it can be carried on the go. Now there are many lightweight laptops that it goes everywhere with the users. However, when the laptop fails to turn on, it is an issue. When it does not boot, there is a need to resolve it.

Here are a few troubleshooting steps that assists in identifying that is hindering turning on your laptop:

  • The troubleshooting may be specific to laptops. However, before starting with the steps to resolve, it is best to disconnect the connected peripherals to your laptops such as a USB thumb drive or a mouse.

 

Connect the power cable

AC adapter

A laptop may be using the battery power to run and if connect the AC adapter as the first step to resolve this issue. You may ascertain the adapter cord is plugged in correctly and is secure on both ends. In case the laptop works with plugged-in-adapter, it means your battery is defective or dead.

In case your laptop is using a docking station, you may disconnect it and directly connect the power cord into the laptop. Later on, turn the laptop.

Take out and reconnect the battery

New laptops such as MacBooks feature designs that do not permit removing of batteries. In case your laptop does not permit battery removal, skip it.

The laptop may be in a power state and this may be hindering it from booting.  You may disconnect the power cable and remove from the laptop the battery. You can leave it disconnected for a minute and then place into the laptop the battery back, connect the cable and switch on the laptop.

Drain the electricity

Draining the electricity is essential as it may be hindering your laptop from starting. It can be an ‘electricity clog’. Here are a few troubleshooting steps that can help in powering up:

 

  • Removing of batteries is essential by disconnecting the AC adapter
  • Hold the power button down for 30 seconds; it will drain from the laptop the residual power.
  • Plug the AC adapter into the laptop without replacing the battery.
  • Press the power button to turn your laptop on.
  • Shut normally the laptop, in case the laptop starts on
  • As the laptop shuts down, place the battery in its place.
  • Power the laptop and check if it correctly boots.

 

If this process fails, repeat and hold for more than a minute the power button.  After all these steps, if your laptop fails to turn on, it may be a hardware failure. Get the faulty hardware replaced.
