Intel has announced its Ice Lake 10th generation core processors which will ensure that you get more energy-efficient laptops in the immediate future. These 10th generation core processors will be based on 10nm architecture towards which Intel had been working for a long time. These processors will be known as i3, i5, i7, and i9 as earlier. Intel is likely to follow the similar naming structure and name these chips like Core i5 1030 G7 where i5 stands for the core i5 chipset from 10th generation, 30 is the processor model, and G7 is the graphics level.
The Intel Ice Lake 10th Generation Core Processors are built on Intel’s Sunny Cove architecture based on 10nm process. The direct impact of such an architecture will be high energy efficiency and laptops working on the Intel 10th generation processors will have higher battery backup time. It is expected that these processors will provide a battery life of up to 25 hours. The Intel Ice Lake 10th generation core processors will be at least 18% faster than the current processors. It will also support Wi-Fi 6 and thunderbolt 3 for faster data transfer. These 10th generation processors can provide up to a teraflop of GPU computing power which will be amazing for high-end content creation and heavy multitasking. It also comes with variable-rate shedding which will make it perfect for playing games.
The Intel 10th generation core processors also come with Intel graphics core. This new graphics option is termed as “Iris Plus” and should provide a significant improvement to these processors over UHD graphics. This can result in a 1.8 times faster experience over Intel’s previous integrated graphics and it will also make FHD gaming more achievable. In addition to this, the Intel 10th generation core processors will also support Wi-Fi 6 which will ensure fast internet connectivity and local data transfers. It is estimated to provide a 70% reduction in latency.
It is expected that laptops with Intel Ice Lake 10th generation core processors will start shipping out before the end of 2019. The Y series and U series chips will be made available in the market first. You can expect to see nearly 35 laptops from different brands by Q3 of 2019. The Dell XPS13 2-in-1 and Microsoft Surface devices are expected to be powered by these 10th generation core processors. The desktops with these Intel 10th generation core processors will take time to hit the market and they are expected to roll out only in 2021.
