Is It Worth Buying A PS4 Pro Or Xbox One X In 2019?

This current console generation has been great and the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X are the ultimate ways to enjoy this generations best games. As I write this we are 7 years into this console generation and the next Xbox, as well as the PS5, are certainly getting close to being revealed with most folks expecting a 2020 release for both.

With that being said is it worth spending that extra money on an Xbox One X or a PlayStation 4 Pro right now when new hardware is on the horizon? On the one hand, you would have to say no. Stick with your current PS4 and Xbox One and just ride it out and save that money for the next Xbox console or the PlayStation 5.

On the flip side of this though, make no mistake about it. If you have a 4K TV (with HDR) there is a notable improvement on some of the biggest games of this generation when played with the beefier and more powerful hardware that the two upgrades give you.

If you look at the PlayStation 4 for example. Games like Spider-Man, God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn do look noticeably better on the PS4 Pro than they do the standard model. On the Xbox One X game such as Gears of War 4 and especially Forza Horizon showcase just how much power that console has over the standard hardware.

If you want to game right now in the best way possible then you simply must own a PlayStation 4 Pro or an Xbox One X. For me, though I must admit unless you have seen, let’s say Spider-Man for example. Running side by side on a PS4 Pro and a standard PS4, you will never actually know the difference.

So, in this regard, if you are just an Xbox owner who has not jumped in on the PlayStation 4 yet, but likes the look of some of those exclusives. You might want to save some money and just pick up the standard version of the hardware. This goes vice versa for a PS4 player who is curious about what the Xbox One is offering.

The PS4 Pro on Amazon currently goes for around 460 bucks that is 160 bucks more than the PS4 Slim. That is a lot of money, money which you could actually use to buy games like God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn. These are great games no matter the hardware and you will enjoy them on the PS4 Slim.

The Xbox One X is the worlds most powerful console and it is also the most expensive. Amazon currently has the Xbox One X listed at $374. The Xbox One S, on the other hand, depending on the bundle can be had for anywhere from $200 to $230. So there is a huge price differential here too.

While I think that the Xbox One X and the PlayStation 4 Pro are both amazing consoles and good upgrades. At this late stage in the game, I would have to say that you are better getting the standard version of the hardware and using that extra money to enjoy some of the vast game libraries each console has. Plus the next generation of hardware is probably 18 months or so away!
