Spyro Reignited Trilogy Review – Final verdict for this incredibly compelling package

After finally beating all three games I thought it was time to write my own Spyro Reignited Trilogy review. Spyro was a huge deal back on the original PlayStation. Then he was rebooted and then he was part of the Skylanders franchise. Longtime fans felt that Spyro was pretty much done, but then Activision and Toys for Bob hit us with this epic collection.

Sometimes HD remasters, remakes or whatever you want to call them just give the visuals a coating of HD paint and call it a day. The Spyro Reignited Trilogy is different and you can tell as soon as you fire (no pun intended) the first game, how much love, time and attention to detail has gone into this game.

Controlling Spyro is an absolute dream. He can still run, jump, glide, breathe fire and everything else you remember him being able to do. Toys for Bob though have tightened the gameplay up and also gave him much better animations too. One of the things that I really want to get over in this Spyro Reignited Trilogy review is just how good all three of these games play. While the original Spyro trilogy was great. This one tightens everything up so well that you get a feeling of familiarity, but at the same time, it feels more like a modern 3D action/platform game than it does a nearly 20-year-old game.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy Review

Each game has its own story, challenges and a ton of stuff to collect. Thanks to the controls being so great, you will actually want to take the time to collect each egg, idol, gem and anything else you can come across. Honestly, as far as gameplay goes, Spyro is just a joy to play. The guidebook which tracks your progress and lets you know how well you are doing makes collecting things even more addictive.

The presentation is truly incredible. While Toys for Bob have made the gameplay even better than it was before. The same can be said for the presentation. Each dragon you come across has its own style and personality. Each enemy in each world has their own style and personality and then there is Spyro himself who is more adorable than ever before. I do not think there is a Spyro Reignited Trilogy review out there that could have anything negative to say about the presentation.

Final verdict for Spyro Reignited Trilogy

As well as looking good, Spyro Reignited Trilogy also sounds great. The game is fully voice acted and the voice acting is great, it is like something out of a Pixar movie. Also, the music is very well done. Like the gameplay, it gives you a feeling of familiarity, but it has been modernized and as much as I loved the original music, this new soundtrack fits this new better looking Spyro world much, much better.

The Spyro Reignited Trilogy is an absolute must buy. Each of the three games is fantastic and playing through them in the right order is the best way to go about it. The games have so much charm, personality and best of all each of them is a true joy to play. No matter if you are a hardcore Spyro fan or someone new to the franchise, you are going to have a lot of fun with these games. Putting together this Spyro Reignited Trilogy review has been a pleasure as this is one of the most fun games of 2018.
